Cinderella On Broadway

When the email popped in my inbox from The Moms to see Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella On Broadway, I immediately replied. Although I would have loved to take Ryder and Siella along to show, Siella is a bit too young so Ryder’s friend Maddie joined us. I remember as a little girl watching the movie over and over again but since have yet to see anything Cinderella related. Yes, of course Siella has Cinderella dolls and dress up clothes but we have yet to watch the movie so I have to say, I did forgot some of the plot. While on our way there Ryder was little apprehensive about seeing “Princesses” as he rather see Ninja Turtles these days. But I assured him he would have fun, after all he was with his fav gal pal!

From the minute the curtains opened to the first scene with the prince and knights, he was completely drawn in. Not so much a girly show from the start as it was a bit on the scary side, even better for Ryder’s sake. The fantasy story all came back to me once this delightfully romantic and hilarious take on Cinderella started. The ultimate makeover story features all the classic elements you remember the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the fairy godmother, and more plus some surprising new twists! Not to mention some very funny moments especially for the adults in the crowd, making it a play for all ages. The magical costume changes had the entire audience in awe and guessing how did they do that. And the little girls….just mesmerized!

I simply adored the play and even Ryder spoke about it in the days afterwards. If you have a little girl who loves princesses, this is a must see and no need to leave your boys at home as they will enjoy it too. If you are taking children, I would suggest a matinee’ as the play does run a little on the late side. Overall, it was just as spectacular as I remember as a little girl.
